Society for Special Persons organized successful activities of people with disabilities on the occasion of International Day of People with Disabilities 3rd December 2013 in Multan.
Major activities of the day were,
1. Dialogue with Parliamentarian; published in Daily Jang Multan edition dated 3rd December 2013
2. Awareness Walk with slogan (We want; Accessible Pakistan)
3. Multan Annual Special Festival 2013
The sole purpose of the event was to highlight our manifesto “Accessible Pakistan” it was an endeavor to draw the attention of concerned authorities and society towards the rights of Persons with disabilities, So that this segment of society may not remain deprived rather they must become inclusive of the system.
In the meeting with parliamentarian we had a long and serious discussions on the challenges faced by the people with disabilities and demanded commitment on the part of concerned authorities to solve those problems. This Discussion proved very productive as the authorities pledged to pay due attention for the empowerment of people with disabilities. This dialogue meeting was published in the daily Jang on the eve of World disability day 2013.
Similarly the underlying objective of Awareness Walk was to project the theme of “ACCESSIBLE PAKISTAN” for the sake of People with disabilities. This Symbolic Walk has also been very successful.Mr Asif Ali Farrukh (Executive District officer-community development) led this walk, through this walk community got awareness on accessibility problems faced by People with disabilities. The success of this awareness walk is evident from the fact that all the participations and other stakeholders acknowledged the rights of people with disabilities. Media provided an active coverage to this event and contributed to its success.
“Multan Annual Special Festival” was made successful with the support of City District Government Multan, Special Education Department, Multan Crescent Lions Club, Social Welfare Department, Rescue 1122, Scouts, Civil defense department, Labor department, health department, NGOs, INGOs, and Media, actively participated in this Mega festival.
Different sports activities like Wheelchair Cricket, Visual Impaired Cricket and Table tennis on
wheel chair was played among teams and spirit was highly appreciated by the crowed. Other activities like drama (Play), musical performances,Specch quiz competition, magic show, musical show, tableaus of students with disabilities, information stall of different organizations, different food stalls were there for entertainment and refreshment purposes.
In this festival, a tall man and a Jhomar party was there to amuse the children with disabilities.
All this was an endeavor to encourage the people with disabilities to avail all the facilities of a common citizen,
The success of this festival is evident from the fact that it helped a lot to bridge up the gap between the people with disabilities. As an outcome, it created a friendly environment and mutual understanding between them.
This was the grand festival of the country Pakistan, a large number of Persons with Disabilities, their families, Multan Arts Council (Singers & artists), Civil defense department, Labor department, health department, Media and all others departments fully participated to celebrate this day, and it was appreciably covered by the media.
It is our prestige that Ms Zahida Hameed Qureshi (President) Society for Special Persons was awarded a shield from chief guest of the festival Honorable Mr. Zahid Akhtar Gondal (District Coordination Officer, DCO Multan) as recognition of my 7 yearlong volunteer services for the empowerment Persons with Disabilities of the country Pakistan.
• The International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed in befitting manner in accordance to its theme: “Breaking Barriers, Open Doors to Inclusive society for all”
• Media, legislative authorities& think tanks of Pakistan received a message from community of persons with disabilities and same highlighted in the media.
• Concept of inclusion promoted in local people of Multan as reverse inclusion.
