National Capacity Building Workshop on CBID for Young Leaders with and without Disability was held on 22-23 Dec, 2012 at Islamabad supported by CBM, Light for the world, Sightsavers International, PPAF, CHIP, Chef International and Leonard Cheshire Disability. The motivated young leaders nominated by provincial coordinators and stakeholders are those who never participated in any training at National or International level participated from five provinces including AJK.
The main propose of this workshop to develop leadership and promotion of Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Approach CBR Guidelines in relation with CRPD and MDGs in Pakistan for full participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities in their own communities.
CBID Network Pakistan believes in identification, mobilization and utilization of local resources. Through capacity building training and twin track approach, from these types of trainings potential human resource could be identify. Potential leaders could be trained through Training of Trainers (TOT) approach. This new inclusive resource pool would be contribute at district level and out-reach areas and will strengthen existing inclusive resource pool developed through CBID training of trainer (TOT)by APCD/JICA.
The two day workshop was started with the recitation of holy Quran by Mr. Muhammad Ali, after that participants introduced themselves one by one.
Dr. Shahnawaz Manumi(National Coordinator CBID Network)
Welcomed to the participants. He said the main reason of our existence is to learn from each other and helplessness is actually a true disability. He said I hope all of you will learn here so many things and make other learn when you go back to your cities, in this way our CBID Network bound will be strong in every cities of Pakistan. He said this is first time that new faces with and without disability have joined this kind of training, meanwhile in past it was practiced that same faces were coming in all the trainings. CBID Pakistan has given chance to new generation to work in the field of disability in effective manner from their young blood & passion. Each && every participant shared experience of travel to Islamabad & expression of joy of selection in the training.
Mr. GhullamNabiNizamani (International Coordinator and Master Trainer CBID)
Welcomed all the participants and introduced CBID & asked to exchange of experience of travel & expression of joy after selection for training. He shared that CBR network is working at global level, he leads CBR Asia Pacific Network as chairperson. He further said that CBID approach is only way to work together to make society as accessible and inclusive society. He said that we all should be neutral while doing during this two day workshop and our aim was to invite those people who were not invited ever in any training or conference. After TOT (training of trainers) you will serve officially with us in your areas. He told that resource person will be selected in future from all of you who will participate more and show confidence for doing work

Facilitated first session of Disability Equality Training (DET). He shared the difference between Impairment & Disability. He said that Impairment is any loss of function or abnormal function that affects the mind or body. Meanwhile Disability is the functional limitation to carry out an action.

Facilitated session on International Disability Movement by persons with disabilities. He told that till 1960 people of Pakistan were unaware about word disability. During 1973 the surveys were conducted about persons with disabilities. Bit by bit people realized about disability & 1981 was observed year of persons with disabilities in the world. Islamic rules are not different for able or disable persons

Facilitated the session on CBR Matrix & Environmental Component. He told that CBR matrix has 05 key components 1. Health, 2.Education, 3.Livelihood, 4.Social, 5.Empowerment. 2ndday session on DET, he told about Model of disability like Charity Model, Medical Model & Social Model. He said that Charity model was based on sympathy. People perception about persons with disability was like gods, they were used to beg prayers. Medical Model termed disability as disease, it was treated like disease. Meanwhile Social Model discouraged both models & recognized equal rights of people with disabilities. Social Model based on rights of persons with disabilities. It was told that disability is nothing if barriers removed. Society must realize the existence of persons with disabilities as equal partners. He also shared some model during in his presentation:

Mr. AsjadMehmood CBID Trainer facilitated the session on Introduction to CBR Guidelines. He said that CBR guidelines were introduced in 2010. The main purpose of CBR Guidelines was to provide guidance on how to develop and strengthen CBR programs.
Ms. FahminaPuri facilitated the session on networking; she put her expertise on networking, like social networking like net surfing, face book, linked in, & E-Café. Mr. SajidZaman also facilitated 2ndsession on Difference between CBR & CBID. He said that CBR is strategy to achieve community based inclusive development, meanwhile CBID is approach to develop inclusive environment. CBR Matrix
Mr. Muzammal Islam also facilitated another session on UNCRPD Articles. He said that UNCRPD was enforced in 2008. It has 50 articles and more than 100 countries has ratified it. Pakistan has also ratified it on 05th July 2011. Pakistan is agreed to be legally bound to treat persons with disabilities as subjects of the law with clearly defined rights as any other person.
Mr. Shafiq-ur-Rehman (Provincial Coordinator Punjab) said in his presentation that disability created by barriers and impairments, there is no standard kind of brain, eye, hand etc. but treatments are standards for them. You cannot rely on outer world realty by comparing it with inner reality or truth.
Mr. RiazHussain (Provincial Coordinator Baluchistan) shared that we have to work together and support each other. He said Baluchistan chapter will be launch in Feb, 2013.
Dr. Maryam Malick (Advisor on Disability WHO) shared her views with the participants she said you should have knowledge about disability so that you can comfortably work for person with disabilities. She also announced that CBR translation will be launch soon for your benefit. This time in Pakistan we don’t have proper legislation although policy is also there for persons with disabilities but it was also not implementing properly. After earth Quake we did strike after that this change was brought otherwise it could take 10-15 years more, awareness and mind set is very important to do this mission and flow of information is also very important
Mr. QaziZahid (Coordinator of AJK) said try to mobilize and pressurize government to do works for person with disabilities. He said the problem is that we have set our own mind set in this way that we have communication gap with other people; we should minimize this communication gap. For being leader it is important to bring change 1st in your own personality. We should initiate our roles instead of other people come and start work in our country
Mr. AtifShaikh (Deputy International coordinator)shared his views with the participants that for inclusive development we need strong Network and now by the grace of Allah we have strong and largest network in Pakistan by the name of CBID. We should share our knowledge with others so that other people can also know about it and start their contribution after this awareness. It’s our responsibility to contribute in inclusive development
Dr. Shahnawaz Munami (National Coordinator)started his presentation with the story of rabbit and turtle. He said first identify your competency then change the playing field to suit your core competency. It is good to be individually brilliant but it’s important to do work together, don’t consider any one weak because if a person is weak in one thing he/she might be active in other and never give-up ever when face with failure. In the end Dr. Muhammad Shahnawaz Munami (National Coordinator) distributed the certificate among the participants along with provincial coordinator. The participants shared also shared their experience during the training they said this is the first time we came here at Islamabad for the training and we leant a lot from respectable resource person.
